The Montecucco D.O.C. area is located within the province of Grosseto and is dedicated to the production of high quality wines. Included in this area are the Boroughs of Civitella Paganico, Cinigiano, Campagnatico, and parts of the Boroughs of Castel del Piano, Arcidosso, Seggiano and Roccalbegna.

The impetus to produce quality wines is particularly enhanced by the presence of other fine wines in the surrounding area, such as the famous Brunello di Montalcino, Morellino di Scansano, S. Antimo and Monteregio di Massa Marittima.

Montecucco wines are of a recent denomination. They were first officially recognized in July 1998, and produce several types: red, sangiovese, white and vermentino.

The red and sangiovese wines are also produced in a reserved quality.
